Handling Problems with TrueType Fonts

The Problem:

While useful for desktop applications like word processing, TrueType fonts can cause problems when they are used to create Adobe Acrobat (PDF) files. Because of this, embedded TrueType fonts frequently fail to render properly when uploading PDF files to the ZipProof server. In particular, text using TrueType fonts may be rendered with improper spacing, garbled outlines and can even fail to render entirely. However, there is a simple workaround you can do using Adobe's Acrobat application (the full application, not the free Acrobat Reader) which will convert TrueType fonts into Adobe Type 1 fonts. Here are the steps to accomplish this:

The Solution (using Mac OS)

Step 1: Open the Problem PDF file in Adobe Acrobat

Step 2: Use Acrobat to export the file as an EPS file:

Important: be sure the box labeled "Convert TrueType to Type 1" is checked, like this:

Step 3: Use Acrobat Distiller to convert the EPS file by dragging the converted EPS file and dropping it on the Acrobat Distiller icon (note: this wil create a new PDF file named the same as the EPS file, but with the .PDF extension):
